Enhanced virus blocking deployed |
More protection for your mailbox
As you may have read in the media, there has been a dramatic
increase in the release of e-mail viruses in the past few weeks.
Some analysts claim gangs of anonymous virus writers are
competing with each other. Multiple variations of viruses
are appearing not just daily, but even hourly.
In close co-operation with
our anti-virus technology partner we have deployed an even
more advanced virus detection system. We are now
scanning incoming email and blocking messages with .com,
.bat, .pif, and .scr files attached. These files
almost always contain viruses and are not emailed in normal
communications.
We are now
even detecting these files inside compressed zip files.
Sending dangerous files inside zip archives has been a
technique used by the virus writers to bypass virus
detection software on mail servers and PC's. As added
protection, we are also blocking all encrypted zip files.
Encrypted zip archives require a password to open the file -
you may have received some virus-laden emails in the past
week trying to lure you into opening these files and giving you
the password within the email message.
Our server-based anti-virus
technology will catch 95% to 99% of all viruses. Viruses
that are detected by our server are deleted before they reach
your mailbox. This saves you valuable time downloading
dangerous messages and then hoping your own virus software will
detect them and delete them or worse, manually reviewing all
your emails and avoiding the suspicious ones.
We've saved the best
news for last! Throughout this month, all new web hosting
accounts will include our server-based anti-virus scanning
technology at no extra cost.

We've upgraded JMail, our most
popular component to the latest version. All our web
servers are now running JMail version 4.4 for easily sending
emails from your scripts. We have also updated our popular
mail-a-form script to use the new JMail. Details are

We received several requests
for an image handling/thumbnail utility so we have installed
ASPJpeg v1.3, one of the most popular image manipulation
components. We haven't updated our online docs yet, so if you
