PHP 5 Installed |
New version of popular scripting
language installed
We've installed version 5
of the popular PHP programming language. Version 5
adds a lot of enhancements including better security and a
more robust object-oriented programming model.
PHP is the "fourth leg" of
the popular LAMP programming stack/platform. (The
first three legs are Linux operating system, Apache web
server, and MySQL database.) As a programming
language, PHP is actually platform independent and runs on
many operating systems - not just Linux.
For our high-performance
shared hosting servers, we're running PHP as a high-speed
ISAPI service on Windows 2003 instead of the usual cgi
external gateway program. This provides high
performance while using less server resources.

Are you reading your email more than once? |
Has reading your email
become a chore you dread? Just a few years ago most of
us enjoyed using email and looked forward to checking our
inbox several times a day hoping there might be something
new to read.
Email has become more of a
chore and many of us dislike the time taken up reading and
replying to emails. It's gone from a novel technology
to one more source of frustration in our daily work or
personal lives.
Here's a quick tip that is
probably more in the category of time management but
nonetheless worth considering. When reviewing your
inbox, resist the temptation to prioritize your actions.
Instead of skipping less important or lower priority
messages try acting on each message immediately. At first
this seems counterproductive, but it turns out it is much
faster to read, delete, file, or reply to each message
instead of skipping some messages and then having to go back
to the list of pending mail over and over.
This works especially well
if normally you skip over messages telling yourself "I'll
handle that one later" and somehow never manage to go back
and take care of it. Soon, after a few days or a week,
your inbox swells to hundreds or more messages each waiting
for you to "go back and handle it".
