IMPORTANT -
YOUR ISP MAY BLOCK SENDING MAIL
(PORT 25)
To help prevent spam by stopping
unauthorized transmission of junk
email, many ISP's are tightening
their network security. ISP's
may only allow you to send outbound
email through their own mail
servers. This helps prevent
hackers from using "Zombies" to spew
thousands or emails from PC's that
have been compromised by a virus or
trojan horse attack and turned into
malicious jumk email generators.
The standard Internet email
system uses something called "Port
25" for sending out email. If
you ISP has implemented this
enhanced security, they will only
allow you to connect to their mail
server and they will automatically
block your PC from connecting to any
other mail server.
If you try to connect to any
other mail server, your email server
will fail - often with a somewhat
cryptic error mesage such as
"Timeout - unable to contact SMTP
server...."
The simplest solution is to
configure your email server to use
your ISP for your delivering your
outbound mail. This will work
fine with your domain name email and
is the recommended solution.
Listed below are some popular
ISP's and links that will help you
find the mail server information
