Tips For Using Microsoft FrontPage
Site Configuration - To use all the FrontPage built-in features, make sure your website is configured for FrontPage Server Extensions. If you are currently using FTP, send a support request to us and we will gladly convert your site from FTP to FrontPage at no charge. FrontPage Tutorials - Microsoft has FREE online tutorials you can download from their web site. Available for FrontPage 2000 and FrontPage 2002/XP. Publishing - The first time you publish your website, be sure to use the "File", "Publish Website..." commands from the menu bar instead of the shortcut "Publish Web" icon. This will force FrontPage to prompt for all the required information instead of using possibly incorrect settings that have been previously saved:
Personal Web Server - FrontPage works best if you are running a small web server right on your own PC. Earlier versions of FrontPage included the "FrontPage Web Server". You can upgrade to the latest version of Personal Web Server as follows: Windows '98 - PWS 4.0 is on the Windows '98 (NOT the FrontPage) CD-ROM but is not loaded automatically. Look on your CD-ROM drive in the folder x:/ADDONS/PWS and double-click SETUP.EXE to begin installation. Windows '95 - You can install PWS 4.0 from the Windows NT Option Pack 4.0 which is a free download from Microsoft. Yes, this is confusing as the the download implies this is software only for use on a Windows NT Server, but it works and this is the procedure recommended by Microsoft.
